Stack Height Calculator

Any stack height, into lineal feet

Siding, paneling, decking or wall logs: anything laid in courses comes down to the same sum. Give the stack height, the face each course or board shows once the next is laid against it, and the square footage you mean to cover. This works out the lineal feet and shows the arithmetic, the way you would on a hand calculator.

Your numbers

What one course or board shows once the next is laid against it. 7, 7.25 or 7 1/4 all work.

The area you actually want covered, with windows and doors already taken out. Nothing here deducts them for you.

The answer will be here

One figure: the lineal feet, rounded up to the foot, with the sum that produced it. Give the stack height and the square footage.

What the number assumes

  • Lineal feet are the square footage times 12, divided by the stack height in inches: a foot of anything with a 7 inch face covers seven twelfths of a square foot.
  • A stack height you type gives the bare sum, rounded up to a whole foot. It carries no allowance for waste or offcuts, which a quote adds for the job in front of it.
  • The area you actually want covered, with windows and doors already taken out. Nothing here deducts them for you.
  • Nothing is rounded to a length the mill runs, and there is no minimum order in this arithmetic. Lengths and loads are part of a quote.

For one of the mill’s own products, the Lineal Foot Calculator uses that product’s coverage figure off the mill’s own list, which is not always the size printed on it.
